Cheeky Bingo – A 2009 Bingo Phenomena
In February 2009 the online bingo world changed dramatically with the launched of Cheeky Bingo, a free to play bingo site that offered players the chance to win real money. Launched by Foxy Bingo owners Cashcade, the site quickly grew into a popular bingo destination. With the credit crunch the idea of winning free money was a natural attraction for many people.
The launch of Cheeky no doubt also influenced the launch of similar sites including Posh Bingo, Costa Bingo and Foxy Zero. Plus in order to combat the possible loss of players to these sites free bingo rooms started to appear on almost every other bingo site.
Cheeky Bingo was one of the bingo innovations of 2009, but could they also be bingo site of the year?
Perhaps controversially we’d say no. It has had a huge impact on online bingo, but compared to last year’s phenomena Wink Bingo, Cheeky haven’t sustained that impact over the whole year.
And that’s because very little has changed at Cheeky since it’s launch. They now have some 1p and 2p bingo but compared to say Costa Bingo and Posh, who also offer free to play for real cash, they’ve been limited in player promotions or developments.
Perhaps they don’t have to because they do attract considerably more players than their rivals? Or it could be that the spotlight remains firmly on Foxy Bingo, who then went and launched Foxy Zero, whilst bargain bingo found a new home at another Cashcade site – Little Big Bingo.
In fact you could say that Cashcade have so many good brands that it’s not easy to make sure each one is moving forward at the same pace. Cheeky started the year by shaking up the online bingo industry, however they go into the New Year essentially as a one trick pony.
We’d like to see them cheekily ruffle a few feathers again in 2010.
