Bingo Lotto Kicks Off This Weekend!
A brand new bingo game kicks off this weekend. It’s called Bingo Lotto and the organisers are hoping to make TV bingo interesting and hopefully a lot more entertaining than ITV’s last attempt. Unlike the ITV Bingo Live, which was free and does hold the record for the most bingo players, BingoLotto costs £2 to play and you’re required to buy your game cards in advance from selected branches of Tesco or online by direct debit.
The promoters of BingoLotto have gone all out to try and attract public interest. Their character, Mr Bing, has been out and about in London today and also hosts his own Twitter and Facebook groups.
There’s also a TV advertising campaign (above) and it asks “Are You In?”. Players are encouraged to meet Mr Bing and co on the sofa every Sunday night at 7pm as there’s loads of prizes on offer including £100,000 cash, a brand new car, holidays, TVs and loads more.
Hosting the show will be Ulrika Jonsson and you can tune in from 7pm on Virgin Media 119, Freeview Ch 20 and Sky Ch 121. Game cards are £2 each, but 40p of that will go to charity – The Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR) and members of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO).
BingoLotto isn’t actually a brand new show ! Back in 2008 The Sun reported that Suzanne Shaw and Joe Pasquale were to host a BingoLotto programme on Challenge TV and we’ve found a clip of the show.
Apparently BingoLotto is based on a Swedish TV format, but will it really do well in the UK? The idea may be to attract lotto players into trying something new or get online bingo players playing along on their TVs. Obviously a second series suggests that there’s some mileage in the format (although have you heard of the show before?), but TV bingo is notoriously unentertaining – and the clip above doesn’t exactly look great TV.
The biggest hurdle is going to be getting enough player interest and with so much free bingo and huge online jackpots around – it may take more than Mr Bing and Ulrika to attract a huge audience to this TV bingo show.
